Benzoyl Peroxide Gel is a topical treatment that can be purchased over the counter at your local drugstore or prescribed by your dermatologist to treat acne. There has been much debate on this drug and we are here to provide you with some information on it. Benzoyl peroxide gel has treated and continues to treat many people that have had or have acne. Though it may not work for everyone, it does work for the majority of people so hopefully it will heal your acne too!

1. Benzoyl peroxide gel is a topical treatment that helps fight acne and prevent new break outs from occurring. There are different percentages of benzoyl peroxide ranging from mild to more intense depending on how severe your acne is.

2. Benzoyl peroxide gel is an effective treatment due to it being antibacterial and its ability to dry out pimples then peels off.

3. Do not use benzoyl peroxide gel if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding. Consult with your doctor before using this topical treatment if you are on any other medications or are taking dietary supplements or if you have severe allergies.

4. Some doctors will recommend using benzoyl peroxide gel twice a day, morning and night, but some people become too dry using this medicine twice daily. Talk to your doctor if your skin becomes too dry to see if you can go down to one dose a day and replace the other dose with another medication.

5. Cleanse and moisturize your skin first, then apply the benzoyl peroxide gel. Feel free to add more oil-free moisturizer on over your medicine during the day if you are experiencing severe dryness.

6. Consult your doctor immediately if you feel the dosage of benzoyl peroxide gel you are using is too strong. Sometimes, dermatologists can prescribe too high of a dose which can cause your skin to burn and become irritated. He or she can then lower your dosage because the medicine should not cause you pain or burning sensations on your skin.

7. Benzoyl peroxide gel will discolor sheets and hand towels so switch to white bed sheets and towels as to not stain your colored linens.

8. Do not apply benzoyl peroxide gel to your skin if you are sunburned, have open painful wounds, or to raw exposed skin from exfoliating too harshly. You will experience severe pain so avoid using if you are experiencing conditions as stated above.

Benzoyl peroxide gel is an effective treatment for acne but use this product wisely. Start with a lower percentage of medicine and see if that does the trick to kill your acne. Don’t get frustrated if it takes a while to find the medicine that is right for you. You are on the right track seeking help and will soon have beautiful clear skin.
